Hello Guys, I have swiss type machine max material dia. 20mm, max RPM 8000. Most of the time I work with steel 1144, 1045, 4340, 9310 and alu 2011. For aluminum we were using Blassomil 22. Didn't have problems. One salesman told me, I can use the same oil to machine steel 4340 and it was disaster - Tool life decreased by 80%. Because I don't have patience to lesson to that guy again I need some piece of advice from You Guys. I want to use Hangsterfers. I used to use: HANGST. Hard Cut 5258 LIGHT and HANGST. Hard Cut 5618. The first one was perfect. The problem is my new oil cannot contain chlorine. Thank You for any answer. |

| That Blasomill 22 certainly should have worked fine in steel. Not the best for it, but it works. Using cutting fluid that's not perfectly matched to the material might at worst cut tool life by 10 or 20 percent. It seems to me that your 80% drop in tool life was far more likely to be a case of using the wrong carbide grade. I've used all the oils you mentioned, and they are very close in performance for high-temp alloys, very different from each other in composition. You might want to look into Valenite's new VP520 cutting oil, it's non-chlorinated. |

| There's a part of the problem right there. While KC5010 is a great grade for harder stainless and high temp alloys, it's not as good in the steels you cut. Try a Valenite VP5615 or VP5625 for steels, and run it as fast as you can in any of those steels. I have some in a DCMT or DCGT 32.51 and could send you a sample to try. |
