Slitting Saw help!!

Hi all!
I have a new part that requires a hole drilled in the end, and then 4x slots that are .010" wide down the part .750. (it's some sort of collet.) It's made from 303 stainless.

I was planning on drilling the hole first and then using a slitting saw on one side of the part at a time, since the depth of the slots is greater then the saw will go.

Since I was planning on doing only one side at a time, the max. thickness of material that will need to be sawed is about .040". Though the front of the collet will only have a wall thickness of .017...

Can anyone help me with a good feedrate and speed of the saw? the saw is solid carbide, .590" in diameter, and has 64 teeth.

Also, i was planning on running the drill back though after sawing to clean up any burrs... would this work?

thanks a lot!!

For best results, ID/OD TIR of the saw should be <.0010" .
Then...
300-600 SFM
.0002" FPT

Let your ears be you guide.
Can usually tell if something is too extreme based on sound.
HTH and Good Luck.

Thanks!!

the arbor and saw we have is "guaranteed" to have less than .0003 runout.. we will see. =)

i get a feedrate od 35 IPM at 2800RPM....
that feedrate seems a little bit ridiculous....Especially for a .010 wide saw.
I've never done slitting at the machine before, so i'm pretty in the dark on this.

any more help would be awesome!

Sorry for that, a typo on my part...

Instead of .0002 FPT
Go with .00002 FPT

Again, let your ears be your guide as you've already employed common sense by questioning.
Good Luck.
