    Breaking Chip soft 17-4SS

    Hey,

Revisiting an issue I had awhile ago when turning long shafts with geometries that made pulling chips off the part impossible. I cannot seem to find the correct insert, speed, feed for breaking long stringers on an ecas 20. Bar diameter is 3/8" turning to 0.13. Any suggestions?

i have very good luck with tungaloy js (ccgt32.51) inserts started using them on heat treated steel now i use the on aluminum and everything between even breaks chip on light cuts

are you pinch turning this? splitting the chip load will help

last time i turned 17-4 h1150 i used an applitec 762xr20 tialn 5/8 down to .300 worked ok but i would try the tungaloy first
