    Milling interpolation or XC point-to-point?
What size radius can you have in the corners? i.e. what size endmill will you be using?
Control the process, not the product!
Machining is more science than art, master the science and the artistry will be evident.

.250 hole then use a 1/16 EM. I'm not sure what's easier or better, milling interpolation or point to point.

Depending on material and depth of cut, you may be able to rotary broach that form. It will save a ton of cycle time over milling pending the hex doesnt need to be clocked to other features on the part.

There's a good video here showing how fast it can be. [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg0q2kgIVxo"]YouTube - ‪Rotary Broaching Tools For Swiss Type CNC Lathes - Steel Broaching Demo -- GenSwiss‬‏[/nomedia]

Yes, I'm aware of rotary broaching, I've done a lot of it for higher qty jobs. However, we see a lot of short run jobs and I would like to have the flexibility of machining this feature in various applications.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully I'll get this figured out and we'll share with the rest of the forum.

Milling interpolation would be easier to program if you have it available.

Are you having a specific problem?
Have you used milling interpolation for other features?

If had one to sell, I probably still wouldn't sell it, they are worth their weight in gold.

The cost of a Rotary Broach holder is only expensive at the beginning, you'll be making money with it for years to come. I've never had to replace one.

I wouldn't attempt to build one unless I had a machine shop full of various equipment. And if I had all the necessary equipment then, there's a very good chance I could afford the cost of the holder.

With that said, I'm curious to find out what you've been quoted to get the holder. The holders for Swiss-type machines that I've purchased in the past have been in the $900USD range.

.250 broach is pushing it on a swiss i tried doing a .250 double hex broach in 300m and my machine was not happy with me. we ran 1 test part and pulled the job and put it in my mori
