I'm looking at CAM software for Tsugami's, Star's & Citizen's. I know of the big 2 between Esprit & Partmaker.
Does anyone have experience on both? If so, what's your opinion in comparing the 2?
It has been a little while since I have used the software
As both packages are very good and it will depend what do you need
My suggestion from experiance is to get the software that has the best post available that requires you to have less input in to get your machine producing parts.
They (software companies) all will make claims that they have this and that post available and are usable but from my experiance from many years of investigating it is not true.
As most companies like to write there programs a particular way it is advisable to check and to observe the print out in detail of the NC data that has been printed out and check this in great detail. As most sales peronale will only have a demo or not so current post that is inacurate just something that can been shown as they will concertrate on the features of the software and dazzle you with the bells and whistles.
As I have seen so many companies get frustrated with there software and spend months to get the post right and depending on the skills of the operator of the software they will give up and leave it in draw to collect dust as it requires skill to get it right.
Now you must also be aware that a post is a set of rules and instuctions to determine the NC output and is not intelegent as there will be mistakes found in the post and my suggestion is to have access to the post to make changes as some software companies do not allow this or it is difficult use and change.
For swiss machines Partmaker has spent more time and effit in there product to suit swiss machines
Also to note that the machine tool companies (swiss) have there own software but you find the engine behind them is Espri developing in conjunction with the machine tool company and when I last looked a lot of informtion was not passed onto the stanard product (posts, screens ,data).
I was at a machine tool show many years ago an star actually promoted Partmaker and not there company software (espri engine) but things may have changed since then.
Now if you look at both companies they both say they are in bed with the machine tool companies
Food for thought
