    Anyone using Genevieve straddle knurl?!?!?

    Is anyone out there using a Genevieve compact straddel knurl on a swiss (slide)? I am considering purchasing one, but would like some feedback from someone using one. Thanks in advanced!

    We do an amount of small (.110Ø - .500Ø) stainless knurling and have not found a good consistant knurler that will work for us. We are currently using an eagle rock cut knurl, it does a fair job, but would like to find something better if possible.

    yes, i use one however i use it tangent to the part as opposed to true straddle,

    we primarilly knurl aluminum and have had great success with this tool

    we have knurled tens of thousands of parts and have never had to do any thing to it as far as repair(still has original wheels) , and have seen only a few mistracks across all that time,

    I haven't used one yet, but can offer this: I know the owner of and the people who work at Genvieve Swiss and know that they:

    1) Test the tooling they sell to be sure it works and meets their standards before they'll sell it.

    2) Stand behind anything they sell to make certain you are happy with it.

    You really can't go wrong with that tool.

    We use them and they work great. Here's what the code looks like if you need feed & speed info. Also, we loaded the tool backwards like the picture shows so we could use the Sub Spindle to hold the part for support. The tool engages at Z2.750 and stops at Z.750. I think we ran 175 parts on the order with the same rollers. We're getting ready to run a 6,000 piece order and each part has a 2 inch long knurl. We'll see how they work in full production to get better data.

    Here is a knurl I Just did in a manual chucker lathe using the GenSwiss straddle knurl.
    The holder and dies were fed axially onto the preturned blank stock at as constant of a feed as my imperfect human muscles can do. As you can see, it has perfect tracking. Imagine how clean the knurls will be with a precision CNC control in the drivers seat.

    Not to beat a dead horse, but I use one all the time, and it works really really well.

    One nice thing about it is that it uses a screw for adjusting the diameter, so you can adjust it a tiny bit at a time. I set the wheels over a gage pin before I put it in the machine, The size of the gage pin will vary depending on the pitch of the knurls & much else, but once you have it down it's a snap to set. (For 96 DP knurls I set it .020" smaller then the *after knurl* OD of the part.)

    Also, for the 1/2" shank one (unless it's changed, i'd double check) just put a G50V.360 Right after the knurl call, this compensates for the height of the tool, and then you don't have to set it every time.

    Oh, and the holder is pretty damn bulletproof. I bent the crap out of it the first month we had it, bent it back into shape on the big arbor press, and over a year later it it still going strong.
