I was wondering if anyone here has a good method for indicating main side drills on the mu38sy. anymethod besides the old cut and measure method. the problem i run into is finding an indicator that has clearance to do full rotation around a drill for full indication. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated |

I'm not sure about that machine.. But I got a Solartron Metrology "Mini Probe" a few years back, for indicating tools in tight areas on other screw machines. Mainly where length is a problem. I can ussually get into places that I can't fit a standard indicator...I stole a dovetail from a test indicator, and bolted it to it, so I can use standard swivel indicator holder, and then stick it in a guide bushing...works great for tramming in drilling staion on most gang blocks...I don't recall the cost, but I know the setup ending up being expensive...the only down fall is the wire getting in the way...but that's not that big of a deal. | Put a gage pin in each, the GB & the tool holder. For example: .500 pin in tool holder, 1.0" pin in GB Index tool above GB in the X axis. Then jog tool in the X axis until the 2 pins touch, then goto offset page and select the tool/offset you are dialing in, type "X1.5" then press the softkey "measure". Do the same for Y axis but, I don't remember if the "measure" feature is available for that offset page. You may have to do it by calculating the positions. Call REM Sales (Rem Sales) and ask for applications, I'm sure they'll be of some help. |
