I was cutting the support slats for my support table.

Can anyone comment on the cut if the sparks look normal. Hypertherm 1250 with drag tip on a floating head on 12 gauge sheet. hmmm, I was cutting at 125 IPM at 40 amps with a 40 amp tip and pressure in the center of the gauge... The orange puff of smoke was the 2x4 on top of the sawhorse... got a little too close.

Looks good.

I would only worry about the quality of the cut. Going straight, your arc follows so you can cut faster. You'll have to slow down around curves and corners especially in thicker material to avoid kerf or tail whip.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean that the arc should angle back from the direction of cut?

Looks great to me. I don't quite have my plasma machine finished yet, but should in a couple months. Building an open garage to house my machine. I built it on a 5' x 10' utility trailer.
I just have a Chinese cutter that works okay by hand so far. I will see what happens when I try auto cutting. Most have said they won't work well and will burn through consumables. We'll see. I may have to get a Hypertherm myself.

Post some pics when you get the slats in that machine.

I'll try and get some pictures up this weekend. I've almost changed my mind on how I want to do my slats to incorporate a water table. As they say; hind sight is 20-20 when you can remember what you saw...

Are you direct driving the belts? What size pulleys and motors? How fast can it run?

The belts are fixed at the ends and come up around some turnaround bearings and over the drive pulley.

The one on the stepper is 12 tooth and the jack shaft is 72 tooth for a 6:1 ratio. Then the small pulley to the long belts is a 10 tooth with a 3/8" pitch so each revolution of the jack shaft moves the carriage 3.75" . This gives you .625" of movement for each revolution of the stepper. So this means that at 800 rpm on the stepper I go 500 IPM. This keeps me in the better rpm range.

How fast? it will go 500IPM and accelerate at 300 inches per second per second.

I used a nema 23 stepper from automationdirect STP-MTR-23079 with gecko 203v drives on 64 volt. Control is EMC2. I'm quite pleased with the results.
