Need a bettey way...

Hi everybody.. newbe here to the zone...

I've rebuilt an old L-TEK flame cutting machine. we put new Automation Direct Sure Servo's on the axis and used the old Burny 5 control. All works well but We're not happy with the cutting gas control system. if anyone has a good piping diagram i sure would lik to see it. thanks. Kilowatt

I have a L-TEC CM-250G and I agree the gas manifold is basic to say the least...
I have a few idears sketched up for my retro... How many torches you plan on running?

James I've installed 2 touch carrages. with 2 Victor M300 series machine torches. the master cararrige has a the axis drive motor mounted to it. It has a slave carrage connected to it by an adjustable crossbar. On the second carrage is also mounted a HyperTherm max 200 plasma torch.

To provide position to the Burny 5; I have connected BEI encoders with 1024 count resolution. the 400 watt servo motors drive a 40 to 1 gear reducer turning a 1.5 Dia. Spur gear. My max positioning speed is 235 inches a miniute.

My problem is finding a good way to dump the back pressure that is used to build the cutting/peirce pressure inside the victor Dome Regulator. a small orfice in the line along with a flow control neddle valve sets the perice rate. but when we shift back to prehear gas only, there is still oressure on the control line to the dome regulator.

We copyed the gas system from an old ESAB MCD-10 that we rebuilt years ago.

Looking over the Burny 5 manual... there is a delay timer for the oxy bleed-off.

My scanner is not working right now else I would scan this page from the L-TEC manual... I will try to describe the path of whats here so bear with me...
I will try to describe the components in order...

Pierce Rate Cutting Oxygen Regulator Assembly:
1. High pressure Oxygen in ->
2. 2-way solenoid valve (IN & Out)
3. Tee-fitting (IN, OUT 1 & OUT 2)
(components from OUT 1 to hose to torch/torches manifold)
4. (OUT 1) to Adjustable Flow regulator with gauge
5. (ADJ Flow Regulator) to Dome Regulator
6. (Dome Regulator) to Torch/Torches manifold
(components from OUT 2 to Dome Regulator control input)
7. (OUT 2) to Needle Valve
8. (Needle Valve) to 3-way Solenoid valve (Normally Closed, Vent to Atmosphere)
9. (3-way Solenoid Valve) to Expansion Chamber
10. (Expansion Chamber) to Control input of Dome Regulator

so your flame is blowing out because of the residual pressure? when you go from cut oxy to preheat? I've set up some multicam 6000 series with dual torches, but that system is was to complicated to remember. the basic for that system was that it had torch lit, preheat, and cut. They have 5 gauges Low oxy High Oxy, low fuel High fuel, and a pierce oxygen. You would set your torch on with low oxy and low fuel. preheat was high fuel and high oxy, Pierce oxygen was your cutting oxygen with an extra adjustement for how hard it would "punch in". then when switching back from cutting oxygen to preheat or torch lit it would blowoff pressure for 2 secs.
