Hi I usually run 3/4 to 1 inch, not a really important variable. I spoke to the Hypertherm rep. about consumeable life, and the nozzles wear about 50% faster if they are on a water filled table. Hard to believe, as there is so much air coming out of the nozzle. regards

I have worked for Hypertherm for over 30 years......cutting over a water table does not affect the life of consumable parts......however, with our torches that are not designed to cut submerged....there could be an effect on life. Jim

Hi Jim: We purchased a Hypertherm 1650 unit with our Fastcut CNC plasma table. When I contacted your tech support, I was most definitely told that consumeable life on a water table was about 50% of a non water table, as a resultof water splashing backinto the nozzle. Ican appreciate your viewpoint, and it was not my intention to malign a very good product. I'd be happy to discuss this with you by telephone if you send me a private message. I probably have the name of the appliaction engineer written down that I spoke with. PS we really like the unit. regards

Water splash will not hurt a Powermax unit or its consumable life.....although it could be affected by cutting under water. Most of our high end industrial plasma systems are designed with underwater cutting capability...while our air plasma systems are not. Regardless.....it is an acceptable method of fume control to cut with any plasma system with water under the plate. Best regards, Jim
