I'm new in the ZONE and pretty sure you can help me. Does any one have ever worked with a Whitney Punch and Plasma CNC? It is a 647D with Westinghouse Producer II controller. This machine has almost 5 years disconnected and, logically, out of use. I'm trying to bring it to life but it doesn't want to. I'll appreciate your comments.

It showed Error 91.6 LOST SERVOS and I cleaned up the boards, and blowed off a lot of dust over the PWM modules. The error disappeared and the controller does not show any errors. The Servomotors are energized but still doesn't move. It shows in the screen that the sevos are unreferenced and the maintenance manual indicates how to reference it, I try to follow the procedure but it just show an error saying the operation can't be executed. I'm thinking is better to look for an upgrade with a PC or something. Can you recommend me something? Any page or link, or a better a system you may know. Thanks

If your intent is to try and use the existing servos then you need to work backwards from the motors. The first important parameter is the power supply voltage or the nameplate voltage value. If they are higher voltage servos (>90VDC) your (affordable) retrofit options are more limited. Then you need to discover the rated continuous current draw per motor. It's possible you could use the existing power supply but it would need to be rated in volts lower than the motor drives you would select. We make packaged electronic kits for use with MACH3 for steppers and servos. We offer the stepper packages with or without motors but the servo ones come with motors because the matchup of the voltage, current, encoder and RPM are important to ensure proper operation. The drive type and gearing is important to know. You need to know all the ratios of the components between the motor and the load (belt reduction, leadscrew pitch, etc). If the motors are standard Frame size (i.e. 34 Frame) it wouldn't be too hard to retro fit more modern lower voltage servo motors. If they are some weird mount then you start to have to get into custom mounting plates and brackets. TOM CAUDLE www.CandCNC.com

It was a switch, thanks. Now its moving, just one axis, but is moving. Torchhead, this is the info I got from the motor plate, is a GE motor Model 193-04-0008-0 with a frame DRE4KS2. (I have no idea what it means!) 90V. The drivers (PWM) are two General Electric with the following information in the nameplate: 3N2100SP104A1 17A 90V. You think this is enough to find the adecuate retrofit? I'm thinking to change just the ProducerII but the drivers and the motors will be the same. I'm concerned about the spare parts for this controller, the reed reader is old and I'm not interested in upgrade it. I prefer to change it. I appreciate your help

Most likely it's an analog input Servo that needs + - 10V control voltage. It's not easy to get from the common (affordable) step & dir to the analog control (especially since the PIXIE card is out of production). Replacing just parts of an old control may not be easy. The 90 volt motors can probably be used but you are going to have to deal with retro- fitting the encoders (could also have a tach feedback secondary loop). The most common form of low cost servo drives (Gecko 300 series) top out at 80V max. Your 90 V supply with any level of back emf would smoke them.

Ups! I better try to find another way to re-build it. It start to moving but I burned out a couple of boards. It gonna be hard to fix it and the replacement cards are too expensive. Thats why I want to find a total refurbish. Thanks for all your help. See you
