| Garnet in waterjet edge Evidently, Boeing has some concerns about garnet abrasive remaining in a waterjet cut edge. We don't think this is possible, given that the abrasive and water stream is traveling a mach 3! Does anyone have any research papers regarding this issue? It has never been mentioned at any of the waterjet conferences we've been to. |

| What material are you cutting? I would guess it would be possible to impinge the media into the material because the velocity is so high, but I would also expect that the particulates would be so small as to classify as dust. If this is a real problem, what do they assume the results might be? I doubt the garnet grains, if any, would be big enough to abrade anything, or if they were impinged they wouldn't go anywhere. If you were processing the parts like engine internal, I would expect that any secondary operations would get rid of it. This sounds to me like some QA department is trying to make a job for themselves |
