Mits CX20 Wire EDM info

Looking at a Mits cx20 (along with an older Sodick). Mits wants nearly 4K to come and set up the machine after I buy it. That includes a fee for platinum service of $1.5K plus a couple of days with a tech setting it up. (they won't service unless you buy the $1500 platinum deal). Does anyone know of a less expensive way to go about this, (independent service), or is the factory Mits the only game in town?. Thanks for your input! Jim

The CX20 is the bad apple in the Mitsubishi family, if I was you I would find another machine, maybe even consider upgrading to the FA series.

No it's another Mits. I was/am considering an older Sodick, but it's a lot slower than the newer Mits. I also worry about breakdowns on a mid 80's machine. Sodick says everything's still available, but I'm concerned about an older control.

I would be concerned running anything that old except a Agie or Charmilles, I do not know that much about Sodick but I can tell you that Mitsubishi never build a machine with the idea that it should be running for centuries. If you are planing running a WEDM in any environment other than in a garage or hobby shop, you verily need something reliable and I think you are going to have a hard time competing with other shop, the technology have improved soooo much.

Just my opinion off course.

jime there is about 6 mil in parts sitting on the shelf at the chicago office. What they do on the older controls is take boards in and rebuild them and check them in a model machine on the floor. They keep one of each model in the back to test the boards with. If they dont have a board on the shelf they pull the board out of the test machine and send it to you and get you to send back your board for a full rebuild so they can restock the shelves. there are still parts for the A280 on the shelf(on of the original machines).

Dave,
I was THIS CLOSE to buying the older Sodick, and I still may. I've seen it operate, it's been checked out, and I can get the owner to help set up and operate. There were a couple of kinks with the seller as it came to close the sale, so I thought I'd back off and check out the Mits's I saw for sale. It doesnt seem that Mits is as easy to deal with as Sodick as far as service is concerned, and much more expensive. Another issue are that the latter machines are twice as fast as the older Sodick. Thanks for the input. Keep it coming! Jim
