Hi all, I'm working on a plasma table and thinking about what plasma unit to buy. Most of my work will be in the 1/8" to 1/4" range for mild steel and aluminum. I don't see doing much work too much heavier than that, but who knows. Anything more than 1/2" steel and I'd switch to my oxy torch. I want to be able to put pretty small holes in - like 1/8" range. I had some parts made with holes this size, both with plasma and laser, so I know it can be done. Would the Hypertherm light-gauge set-up work well for my requirements? Thanks for the advice, Scott Last edited by Stuff-Builder; 02-17-2006 at 09:02 AM. Reason: Typos |

| Hello Scott, As you can see from my thread I am new to the cnc thing, but I have been operating, selling, and servicing plasma cutters for some time. In my experience it is hard to beat ESAB for dependability and especially consumable life which is a big deal at $8-$15 per change-out. Their ESP-50 would seem to be a good choice for what you are doing. It is a 1/2" rated machine, comes standard with a 180 degree machine torch, and is set up to be interfaced with a cnc. You should be able to buy it for about $2400.00-$2600.00 with a 50 foot torch. It is also one of the least expensive to change out consumables at about $7.50 per set. GOOD LUCK |
