Hi. This is an awesome project, it is well built and constructed! Congratulations!
Are you satisfied with the Proma Elektronika Torch Height Controller? I've started a project too (with a PowerMax 65), and I have almost finished it, but I think to buy the same Torch Height Controller.

Proma Elektronika

Hi Fanefane,

Thanks for your comment. Proma Elektronika THC is simple to wiring, universal and very affordable by today. I think it must to have more inputs to adjust the parameters while the machine is running. Is like a PID controller size and you cant believe that small thing will works but it does works fine.

Just a suggestion....the Hypertherm Powermax 65 plasma.....like all plasma systems has a directional cut quality. In the video....all of the cuts are being done in the wrong cut direction! Holes should be cut counter clockwise, the outside contour should be cut in the clockwise direction.

Think of the plasma torch cutting into a plate and moving away from you....the right side of the cut kerf will have better cut quality in terms of angularity and dross, the left side will have more dross and angle.

Thumbs up Jim

Thanks Jim for the advise, powermax 65 cut amazing even in wrong direction!!!. I purchased Sheetcam last week and im studying all his features for plasma cutting. Thanks again for the help.

Proma THC

Hi,
I am new to the CNC world so please excuse some of my silly questions...
I have built a CNC plasma table, the X, Y axis are cable driven and the z axis (lead screw) has a footing head... I have also purchased a Proma THC and I need some pointers as to the correct way in wiring it. For example, is it stand alone and wired directly to the stepper motor on z axis OR is it wired to the stepper motor drive? Also, can I still use the floating head assemble with this THC?
Any advice you could provide, would be much appreciated...
Cheers Tyrone

From what I can see online....the Proma THC is simply an arc voltage feedback circuit. This is used to monitor the arc voltage of a plasma torch and compare it to a knwn voltage.....then it closes a contact if the voltage is too high....or closes another contact if the voltage is too low.

An interface will have to be designed to accommodate:

-initial height sensing
-pierce height retract
-pierce height delay
-Plasma start
-corner avc lockout
-kerf crossing
-end of cut retract
-interface connection with x axis drive motor

I suggest communicating with the manufacturer to see if they have suggestions for making bthis unit work as a functional torch height control.
