plasma water treatment

Hello ,just wondering what you guys put in the water to stop rust in the bladder/ tank. Saw one suggestion on sodium nitrate but this is hard to come by in Australia,Something about bombs.
Any other suggestions welcome.

I use sodium nitrite (not nitrate), not sure if that makes a difference regarding bomb-making or not.

From what local retailers have told me a lot of chemicals like sodium nitrate and nitrite as well as ammonium nitrates have become a lot harder to purchase because bad people mix it with diesel or fertilizer to make bombs

Sodium Nitrite (NOT NITRATE) is commonly used as a food preservative to prevent botulism so even it Australia it should be available. I use it with Physan 20 (prevents mold, etc) and the combination works great to keep the water clean from rust, algae, mold, etc. My table is over 2 years old and even though the paint on the bottom of the water tray is scratched down to bare metal in places, there is no rust.

I can't remember the exact mixing ratios but there is a formula posted someplace on the zone.

You cab buy the sodium nitrite on ebay. Physan 20 is available in garden shops.

This was posted by plain ol bill a while back, I use this recipe and have no rust, no stink and looks cool. I do have a "plasma stink"if I cut for more than 6hrs at a time.

PLASMA QUENCH RECIPE

Here's the recipe for home-made PlasmaQuench
1/4 pound of sodium nitrite powder ($15/pound)
1 teaspoon of Physan 20 ($8/8oz bottle)
1 oz Ultramarine blue food-grade dye ($5/oz.)
Mix well, treats 75 gallons of water.

I've just been using plain old Arm & Hammer WASHING soday from Walmart. I've had this in my table since April and I have not enough rust to talk about. There are a few places on my bare slats that have a small amount of surface rust on them here and there, but if you scrape the nasty looking rusty colored crap off, the slats are not even pitted or anything......so I really can't tell if it's just minor surface rust, or some kind of rust colored moldy crap. Either way, it's not hurting anything, so I haven't changed from just using the washing soda.

Thanks guys for the replies, no luck with finding-sodium nitrite locally so far so I will give tha plain old washing soda a go.
