Looking at purchasing a Multicam 3000 or Axyz 6014 series router. The table size is 80'' x 168'' - Multicam is saying I need a 20 HP displacement blower, AXYZ is telling me that their 7.5 HP vacuum pump would work fine. I'm having doubts that 7.5HP provides enough hold-down power.
anyone have any thoughts? Multicam vs AXYZ??
They are both great machines. I think a deciding factor would be service and support. MultiCAM services their machines exclusively through a dealer network whereas AXYZ service centers are all satellite locations with an excellent and improving service department. The biggest improvement to the AXYZ is their new controller it is pretty sweet and is a quantum leap in technology from the previous one.
As far as the vacuum hold down goes, there are major differences between a pump (AXYZ) and a blower (MultiCAM). It is a tossup between CFM which gives you a greater volume of air or greater inches of mercury lift which gives you enormous hold down power. Both are excellent, it depends what you need to hold down and how small a part you will be cutting. One thing to consider is seeing a demo of both hold down systems and determine which would be the best for your application. Don't be persuaded by the difference in H.P. as the 7.5 H.P. in some cases could out perform a 20 or 30 H.P. for max hold down pressure and it will consume far less energy and electricity to power a vacuum pump.
