    Cool Spindle Probe

    Hi

Our company is looking out to purchase spindle probe. I need to know from all you guys that in what precision it works...(Hole centre finding accuracy & so on....)

Also does it includes any machine setup such as repairing or amendent of machine ball screws or any other mechanical part to achieve the desired performance.??

    Thanks
    Ash

The top of the line is Renishaw, but pricey, you get the macro's for hole centre, external/internal dia, edge etc.
It is very important to include the interrupted move macro, this is used for any initial positioning to prevent probe collision/breakage.

Renishaw are as accurate as the machine they are on and they are great probes . if the machine is dead nuts on then the only factor you could face is a bit of deviation as the machine cools down while measuring . but this is usually when aiming for extreme tolerances which by right should be measured with a cmm . I've used them quite a lot for locating multiple large bores which had positional tolerances of +-.0003" and had no problems as long as the probing and calculating was done rapidly so the machine temp didn't change
another factor that affects the accuracy of those probes is other machinery that are taking heavy cuts , they can throw your positional measurements out up to .0015
take care of it and get it checked for calibration every so often and you'll be rockin

also get yourself a bottle of whiskey to calm your nerves after setting up and running the macros for the first time

    Wink

Thanks for your reply... & valueable information.

Also wanna ask you that are probes used for settting purpose. I heard that u don't need to align a part. U have to probe two edges & the machine system changes the coordinate system to machine the part. (By using G68 command)

    Any experiences with it &

is it only limited to rectangular/square parts or have endless applications for auto aligning with G68.

    Thanks
    Ash

can't help you there , I've never used it for aligning but I'm sure its do-able with the right macro

    Question

    Hi

As dertsap said, it needs a calibration to be done to get faithful results.

    How calibration is done ?

Is it a sort of ballbar test or any such sort ?

    Thanks Ramu
