Does anyone know if there is a chart or formula for calculating the cutting speeds for woodruff cutters?
Currently I would like to use a 1" dia x 3/16" width of cut in aluminum. But I would like to be able to calculate for all materials and woodruff cutter sizes.
Thainks in advance for the help.
Variables include material being cut, material of the woodruff cutter and set up specific information. We predominantly uuse HSS woodruff cutters and I then to start off very conservatively. Most have the necked down shank so rigidity is not at a premium. They do make carbide insert woodruff cutters now that can machine much more agressively. In any instance you need to get the recommended SFM and chipload from the manufacturer to use as a starting point.
Hope this helps

They're not going to call out a woodruff specifically, but you can go based on the SFM and number of teeth from their charts.
