Default Crossover or Straight Ethernet Cable?

I have the UCCNC UC300ETH-5LPT with C10S BOB. I am in the process of replacing a USB Leafboy77 board with these new components in my machine.

Are you guys using the crossover cable for a direct connection like the manual states? I have only been successful connecting to the board using a straight cable. I am thinking maybe there is a setting somewhere on my Windows 10 laptop where I can change the connection type. Might I have inadvertently set it during my troubleshooting to only accept the device connected using a straight cable?

here is the cable that I bought that does not seem to work for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It really depends on your ethernet port on your PC. I believe that the UC300ETH manual also states that modern PC's may not need a crossover cable.

It also must be noted here that if the LAN network card or the router where the UC300ETH-5LPT
is connected to supports MDI/MDIX auto cross functionality then it does not matter if
the cable used is a Patch cable or a Crossover cable, because the MDI/MDIX function will
    detect the cable type.
So it really depends on the LAN card.

I use a standard straight through cable on both my desktop with an intel PCI card, and my Dell laptop. I don't have a crossover cable, so I've never tried one.

Thanks Gerry, I will buy a 25 ft straight cable if the LAN card I get today does not work with the crossover cable. The straight cable I tested with is not long enough and I don't want to use the laptop to run my machine. Too much junk on it!

It worked! I had to set the IP address on the desktop PC and it finally connected using the crossover cable.
