    Default AutoX3D 4x8 foot build

This is my second big DIY machine and my 12th router build.

Started out with laser cut and CNC bent 4mm ms plate. The shop across town has a Italian 3kw machine and a Japanese CNC bender. The price for the frame was around $500.

I went with the angle bar roller linear guide design with rack and pinion drive.

The laser shop also cut my rack and pinion from mild steel plate.

I used my China 3040 with 1.5kw spindle to machine the rest of the metal parts and my 3D printer for things like spacers, jigs, etc.

The z axis is used Japanese actuator with an adaptor I machined from 6mm t6 aluminum.

So far the frame is assembled. First try bolting it together, it was off by 2mm from parallel. I discovered that the legs were not bent quite square.

A quick bit of squeezing in the bench vice fixed that.

The x and y rails are 50x100mm square tube with 1.5mm wall thickness. The angle bar is 1/8 Inch thick one inch angle bar.

I was hesitant to CNC bend this as I would have needed to purchase a full 10x20 foot sheet to get the 3 meter long rails cut.

Next time I will maybe make in two pieces and bolt together. The time spent messing around with the square tube was not as economical.

I also will powder coat everything next time instead of painting as the paint was almost the price of powder.

My design was inspired by the shopbot. Drawn in DesignSpark Mechanical

I have included photos of the 3d printed welding jig, and the 3d printed v guide block.

Other lessons learned is that corner brace should be used on all 3 axis. This will make it easier to align everything on the initial assembly

Steppers are 425 oz and the 5 axis tb6600 board. Power supply is 24 volts.

I bought 2 boards from 2 different vendors to make sure I get at least one working one.

Other lessons learned, to get good smooth angle bar guides, I found a device that converts a angle grinder into a sort of mini chop saw. I used parts from that, roller bearings and 3d printed parts to make a surface grinding jig, kind of like a knife grinding jig. Next time I should use a spare bench grinder I have here as the grinder.

    More progress today.

    To do:

    Finish setting up mach3
    Installing steppers on y axis.
Drilling and tapping set screws for the rack and pinion drive gears.
    Installing power supply
    Installing circuit breaker
    Wiring.
    Testing.
    Bolting down the bed.

Nice work! Can you post pics of the grinder setup you used to surface grind the angles?

I already disassembled it. Needed my angle grinder. Basically it is similar to the knife grinding jigs though

It's done except for the cable carrier and fine tuning. Picture is my boy on the table vacuuming it off after machining plywood.
