I may have misled you for the need for the massive structure to make it super rigid. With the small spindle and drawer slides, the massive lumber is unneeded. It's only going to be as rigid as the weakest link. The drawer slides will pretty much limit your machine to lightweight milling regardless of what spindle you use. The stock plans for the Z are pretty good but can be upgraded. IMO, you won't be happy with the drawer slides, and I'd shoot for at least a 2 HP spindle unless you plan on only engraving or other light work.

yeah im only thinking at this time but they are off photo-copiers not draw sliders. i'm thinking linear rails as i need to order a new Y ball screw as the one i have is too short.. also im only wanting to see if it is something i will use alot and if so i can upgrade the z setup.

also i have only played around with the old book build cnc years ago so not looking at cutting steel or ali. i have a feel for wood and prob cast plastics.

well not much with my cnc but got dropped off at the shop today in going order was a Gravograph VMX with keyboard and screen, also has a heap of spare cutters and about 5-6 font carts. it also has the manual.

i thought it was a good deal as i see a form on here for them and they have been modded to use mach3 and vectric software.

it maybe another project at some tome.. i thought maybe circuit boards and litho's???

    hmmmmm who knows..
