Default Help needed to go faster! :)

    Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for help with my CNC machine. I have a 4.5 axis hot wire CNC machine using 12V@0.6A Unipolar Step motors direct attached to a M6 thread (pitch 1mm). The driver is custom made (full step - single phase on) and designed but the idea is simply use a TIP122 to switch phases on/off. Everything is powered by a 12V 5A power supply.

I know I cannot expect so much from this configuration, but now I'm trying to improve my machine. I can run it @ 60mm per minute (60 RPM) right now, but i'm looking for a cheap way to get more from my motors (around 240 RPM).

    My doubts are:

Can I get this speed with these motors?
Can a chopper driver help me? (I have a 48v 8.3A power supply and some l297/l298 chips. I can build a bipolar chopper driver or a unipolar version using TIP122).
Is there any other alternative to get more speed?

This is my CNC (in that time it was a 4 axis only CNC machine).

    Best Regards

Bipolar parallel wired steppers, with modern 542 drivers.
    About 1000 rpm at 48 v.
Steppers are about 40$ each, and drivers the same.

The modern drivers are silent (no hissing), dont overheat, and use soft start.
