Hi All,

Just had the chance to test compressed air through a loc-line style hose on a Tormach 770 during fly cutting on HDPE and 6061. However, I'm not sure as to the best way to position the compressed air stream for best performance.

Recutting was hard to assess on HDPE. However, on 6061, there was occasional recutting on the back side of the cut, maybe 3 to 4 scars left behind on the stock in 4" (this was the "tram high" side, so it wasn't a case of geometry). Air steam was aimed at the exit of a conventional cut, from one round nozzle.

Could have just been due to the cutting parameters and some BUE occurring without lubrication, not sure. The spray of WD-40 trick didn't seem to change anything. Parameters were:
Tormach Superfly, polished insert, 2.8" dia setting
2.1" WOC, 0.010" and 0.005" DOC, finish at 0.001"
~1500 RPM, 8 IPM

Thanks in advance,

Mike
