ipm is intelegent power module(or something to that effect) it monitors current and voltage applied to the motor. alarm on the drive will be either a,8,9 it tells you which axis is affected. i have been told most common problem is motor power cable, followed by motor, finally amplifer. i have attaced a link to an article that gives a basic trouble shooting explanation. the information i have is for tsugamis so the axis's wont match up

Quick Guide for Fanuc System Troubleshooting: Is it the Cable, the Amplifier, or the Servo Motor?
