i am trying to run some headed pins out of 1018, and chip control has thoroughly eluded me

material is 7/16 round 1018
part has a .248 shaft 1..2" long with a .190dx.200w grind relief under the head

best inserts so far have been mitsubishi sn(parallel chip breaker sharp) running 8000rpm .0008 ipr using a ccgt and coming back with a vcgt for the relief

this makes a long soft stringer that coolant washes out pretty well unless it wraps up.

trying to find a more steel friendly insert as i am only getting 200 or so pcs an edge, most steel inserts are creating an uncontrollable chip and poor finish

machine is a tsugami bo205 with hp coolant
