I had started modeling some laser parts to do just that. I bought a laserhead and mirror from ebay. Dust covers will have to be in made to cover optics during routing.
Has anyone attached a laser engraver to their CNCRP machine? I have several projects in mind where it would be great if I could carve a wooden part with my CNCRP machine and then laser engrave it right on the machine bed. Not sure where to start and hope that someone has already done it.

I just want to engrave wood so a small laser mounted next to the spindle will work fine. Here is a company that sells exactly what I think I need: J Tech Photonics, Inc.. They have nearly turnkey solutions for more than 20 routers including ShopBot and Axiom. I have the CNCRP NEMA 23 controller so I need to find an output (and ground) to connect to the Laser controller to turn the laser on and off. I will also need to make a Vectric Post Processor that knows about that output and I think I'll be good to go.
note to CNCRP support: interested? (the company makes specific reference to working with Shop Bot. Probably to others as well.) here are two videos of a turnkey solution for an Axiom router (from Axiom's site!): https://www.axiomprecision.com/acces...laser-kit.html

I've done it. It's pretty straight forward. I can answer specific questions and Jay at JTech is a wizard. Great guy.
Good luck.

J Tech already has post processors.

They had a machine setup at the Vectric User Group last fall. It's a pretty simple setup, and worked well. There was always a large crowd gathered around it.

I have a Smooth Stepper so at Jay's suggestion I added a breakout board - https://www.amazon.com/Electronics-S...breakout+board and ribbon cable - https://www.amazon.com/Uxcell-Ribbon...AW865B919AS8YM. The ribbon cable is attached to Port 3 of the ESS, the laser driver input is attached to pin 1 and ground (pin 18) on the bob. The rest of the setup is on the JTech website under Upgrade Instructions - Mach3 Laser Upgrade. Just make sure your output signal is the same port and pin the ribbon cable is attached to.
Hope this helps. S
Here is a thread about the subject.

I added a 2.5W laser to my DIY machine. I purchased the laser off of eBay. Its power level is controlled by a port off of an Arduino Uno. Here's a shot of the laser in action.
Just added a 10W laser to my 4896 Pro CNCRP machine.
I got the laser from EnduranceLasers.com. George is great guy and helped out a lot. I have a video of the main setup here and I'm uploading another with the Mach3 Setup so far.

Thats great! Thanks for sharing.
Are you able to do engraving ( variable power ) or just the on-off?
It will support power level changes with the M3 Sxxx command (where xxx is the power level % you desire.) Increments of 1%.
