Contour tab "witness lines" ?

I'm seeing these "witness lines" or artifacts from when I cut a profile with tabs. In this picture, they are more visible due to burning but that is not always the case. My instinct is to attribute it to Z-axis tramming, but I can't get my head around that. If biased, the up/down during tabs should still follow the same lines as the regular cut.

Any ideas? These are with both 1/4" and 3/8" compression bits.

Do you have the ability to do 3D tabs, which can be done in Vcarve? Essentially, instead of a straight up/down Z move, which means the bit spins in one place longer, the 3D tabs are a triangle so the bit is still moving forward while raising up/down.

Yes! F360 has an option for that in tab setup. I'll have to give it a try and see what happens.

Just tried it today, it didn't really help. Still seeing those lines.

Take a look at the second post in this thread as he talks about why you’d use a last pass (allowance) to clean up machining marks. His second paragraph covers cut direction, which is another variable you could try along with the last pass allowance. has these settings since they’re fairly basic.
