Default CNCRP pro (LATEST) z-axis cable track hack

I upgraded my CNCRP pro to the latest linear motion design this summer and was really missing the Z-axis track for cable management (esp with a water cooled spindle), so I decided to see if I could design some 3D printed parts to make the old z-axis track work.

The solution turned out to be pretty simple... just two brackets. The only other thing I needed was one an extra cable track end since they are identical on both ends of the track now.

The first bracket is an offset L bracket to make sure the track clears the z-axis chases while moving. It mounts through the same holes that hold the Y-axis cable track to the Z-axis carriage. I think I had to get screws that were a little longer.

The second one is just a straight "popsiscle stick" with elongated slots for some adjustability. It mounts to the t-slots (with T-nuts) on the front of the z-axis.

I printed them that at Shapeways.com. If there is any interest I can make them available for purchase.

Really love that one too! Will have to print me one of those. Thanks for another great idea!

How strong is the plastic? I've thought about sending some designs to Shapeways to get printed, but material strength has always concerned me.

It seems to be holding up good. I think I see a *small* amount of flex/twist in the "popsicle" part, but otherwise fine.

    It is laser sintered nylon.

Note that shapeways will let you print FDM PLA now.

Neat hack, looks great. I'd be tempted to run the vac over the top of that, too.

Material is one aspect, fill percentage (density), and thickness also matter. Plain PLA is cheaper but not quite as strong. ABS is stronger and handles slightly more heat. And then if you add fibers, that can make the part stronger but likely won’t have as smooth of a surface.

So if you want stronger, specify a stronger material with more fill or thicker walls but each of these adds to cost and engineering is about making it work well without being too expensive.

If they print with Pet G, that will be very strong and cheap.
We use it to print out 3 of our guard parts here.
The tail section, which has two steel roll pins embedded for strength. A latch for our stainless steel tail hook and all of our dust ports.

I really like that vac attachment. I need that for my saw. Great and simple design there.

    Thanks.
We have a little newer version of it now.
We updated the tail hook latch.

This is what CNCRP sent me when I ordered the Z kit. No hardware or instructions, I just guessed how it was installed.

Could always use yoru machine to cut those parts out of aluminum.
    Great design.
