It is not a hard task you just need to make sure the belts are tentioned properly and that the orientation position for tool change is set back properly. If using a BDS5 drive then you will need Motion Link software to do this. If it is a newer machine you can do it through the CRT or Simmo com u software. I would make sure you mark where you prox switches go back if youre unfamilar with it and be careful with the coolant union if you have one they can be quite expensive. We have eight Arrow 1000 one 750 and one 500 we constantly are putting belts on them and accasionaly replacing motors. I would reccomend going to a good gates belt when changing the motor they seem to hold up better. I also reccommend to change that belt every time you pull a motor. Some of the machines have up to three belts depending on the spindle size.

Thanks for the reply. The motor is still in the machine, but I have already removed the belts so the orientation is probably lost. The motor is from Vickers (Siemens). The only think I am worried about is setting the spindle orientation, if you could provide any more info on this that would be great - Where and how to mark the proximity switches. The machine is from 2001 running Acramatic 2100

I will send you a copy of the procedure that our company has used to teach new employees how to do this. It is fairly detailed for a new person but if you are familar with these machines it will be real easy to do. I myself do not use the procedure as i remember it. I also attached a copy of ML software the instructions for this software is in you BDS5 manual. It is also needed for tuning and loading the paramaters to the drives. I would back up all your BDS5 drive paramaters with the software if you do not currently have them on file.

chad Is it easier to replace the bearings vs swapping spindles?

By the time you pull the spindle out to change the bearings, you might as well put the new one back in it's place. You could take out the old, and put in a new spindle in two days max. I'm not sure if replacing the actual bearings would be something that is easily done in a regular shop. They are probably very specific bearings etc...

Need help! We have Cincinnatti Arow 750 The spindle motor positions succesfully, but does't spin. No other error messages appear except "The Spindle has not reached the programmed speed". May be it is necessary to Setup Kollmorgen drive? In that case I need file ml.exe, but the original floppy is missing... Please help!

Depending on the spindle on your machine you may be using a prox switch for positioning. If you spin the spindle by hand do you get a spead read out in you spindle diagnostic page. If so you may need to check your signal with an oscope to the BDS5. The BDS5 maintenance manual should give you a break down of the feedback signal. If you are not familar with a scope you will be looking for Sign and Cosign waves on certain signals then a five volt high and a zero volt low on designated wires. I have seen the spindles on these machines become very touchy do to bad connections at the BDS5 so I always wiggle the wires while checking feedback. The ML software should be available thruogh your machine vendor. We have both ML and ML PLUS software.

I can't spin by hand! The spindle is blocked or it's speed is 0. The spead read out doesn't change. If I press "Setup Kollmorgen drive" comuter wants to execute a:ml.exe that is missing. Our Arrow is second hand and has been bought "as is". To contact smbdy familiar with Cincinnatti in our country is still great problem. Last edited by tux; 11-07-2008 at 04:47 AM.
