Recommended Coolant for Cincinnati Arrow 500?

Hi, I'm wondering what coolant is recommended for the Cincinnati Arrow 500 machine. We have recently purchased one, and are now getting all of the needed supplies. We are not using the machine for production, so we don't need 50 gallon barrels, just smaller quantities. A link to a site where we can purchase some would be beneficial.

Also, what mix ratio is needed between the water and coolant?

    You need to specify more.

Coolant is not based per machine, but is based on material and type of cutting.

You should provide a bit more details of materials to be cut and such, and more of milling, or drilling, or tapping, etc.

We are mainly research, so at this moment I do not know what we will be doing right now. Likely we will be working with steel and aluminum, but as I said, we don't have a specific application at the moment.

I take it there isn't a general purpose coolant?

Trim product have always been good, and Blaser as well.

I got coolant for Arrow 500 from the company linked below:
    StarChem.net

They have 5 gal per bucket. But you have to select the type of coolant yourself since it is material dependent. You can find the information by clicking on "Product" from the website. The mix ratio and other instructions are stated on the label of the bucket.

    Hopefully it helps!

There certainly is a crap ton of choices out there. The one thing i will say is, if you expect to do perhaps a majority of aluminum, a soluable oil based coolant is often better. Not that semi and synthetic won't work, but soluable oil will work better and works as well on steels, SS, and higher alloys.

I get coolant from coolant control in Cincy OH. They sent me a couple 1 gal samples of soluables and I've been ordering single 5 gallon pails since, usually runs about $125 shipped, but they have semis and synthetics, I think cheaper too

yeah, I think we will go with a semi-synthetic type of coolant, probably the general purpose one from the MSC link from earlier.

On a similar note, does anyone know if a plain 6" ID rubber tube could connect the two coolant tanks together? Our machine did not come with one and I don't know if plain rubber is sufficient given the chemicals in the coolant. Any advice?

No on the rubber. It will swell up in coolant. Should be a PVC tube with reinforcement wrap inside. Last thing you want is that hose to split overnight and leak 100 gallons of coolant on the floor.

So no on rubber? even if it is made of the buna N or viton material?
and if we use a PVC pipe, what would the reinforcement wrap need to be made of?

It really sucks that we didn't get it with the machine (it was damaged by the previous owner via forklift), because this is getting annoying

Not PVC pipe. It's a clear hose with fiber inside. It gets hard after a few years, but doesn't swell up. I don't know about buena n in coolant.
