    psr4/5 220

A friend of mine has a Kollmorgen PSR4/5 220 . My question is could I use this for a spare on my Arrow 1000 with the 2100 control ? The part number is the same but I'm thinking that somethings different.

    Thanks again,
    Scott

Slow learner, only difference in psr4/5-220's was whether there was a db resistor option of not IIRC w/o manual to check... but if db then 2 screw tb at top front for it....

doesnt ur machine have a psr4/5-250 tho? 50a vs 20a? anyway, if u can get it cheap might be good backup if u r done and can get by with low removal rate or keep load on spindle down.....

Hey Scott, if the ps did not also power the spindle motor, then yes, it wud be worth having around as an emergency spare if ur's broke.... but ur big spindle motor pulls about 20 amps just to make the magnetic field in it and that may be too much for this small 20 amp ps to provide AND leave some amps over for the servo x,y,z axes to run too.... but....

the 24amps the spindle motor pulls is "imaginary" current believe it or not. aka reactive current..... so its not totally real.... confusing huh? anyway, once it gets pumping it just goes into the motor then back out to the psr capacitors who store it for 1/2 an ac cycle and send it back. and so forth, so it is there but the psr4/5 only had to supply it once at turn on, then it stays, going back and forth 60 times a sec between the psr and motor and does not have to be 'supplied' again...... so it MIGHT work....

i will send a pm with one more possible option monday when i get to work too.
