Cincinnati M1SPDL_ENBL / M1SPD_READY Alarm

Hello,

We are currently having the exact opposite problem as the forum member in his thread (link below)

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/cincin...not_ready.html

For ours, the spindle enable signal [M1SPDL_ENBL] is on but [M1SPDL_READY] is off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The machine is Cincinnati Arrow 750 Acramatic 2100

If you read past the first post on the thread you referenced, you are describing the same fault he had.
His original post was just quoting the possible causes for the fault. The fault was actually telling him his spindle enable signal [M1SPDL_ENBL] is on but [M1SPDL_READY] is off.

This is saying the control is outputting the spindle enable signal, and it expects to see a spindle ready signal back from the drive within a specified amount of time. If it is not seeing this, either the spindle drive is not ready (i.e. faulted), or the drive is outputting the signal, but it is not making it to the control (i.e. bad connection, broken wire, bad relay, etc).

I'd start by checking the spindle drive for a fault, and if no fault on the drive, check the wiring between the drive and the input to see where it is being lost. Look in your electrical schematics to find the wire numbers and terminals to check. I don't have prints with me, but I think there is also a relay in this circuit you may need to check.

We do have a red light on in the back of the machine where it says "FAULT", looks like on the board for the "C" axis which is the spindle.

I've searched for a resolution / next step from here but have not found one, do you have a suggestion?

Thank you for your input so far.

I'm assuming you have Kollmorgen drives, but if it was a newer machine, they could be Servostar drives.

You say it looks like it is on the C-axis. If you have the Kollmorgen drives, the spindle drive is a VFS5, and right next to it is the power supply (PSR). I mention this only because each of these has a fault light on it, and I've had people call me confused about which is the spindle drive.

If the fault light is on the spindle drive, the best next step is to use motionlink software to read the fault code stored in the drive. If you don't already have the software, I remember seeing older threads which have links to get the software. You will also need a cable to connect the computer to the drive. Just make sure machine power and computer power are both off when you plug the cable in.

Once you have motionlink installed on a computer and the cable connected to the drive, type the command

err hist

This will display a list of the error history logged in the drive. Although the error codes are not always helpful, it may guide you to the cause of the fault.

Maver1ck comments r spot on!

I like to hit escape key when connected with motionlink plus and watch real time as I push green go button on front of machine: it spits out the exact error that causes it to fail, real time as it happens.

Thank you both for your input, it's been great help following your advice so far. I was able to confirm the Kollmorgen drive and the VFS5 spindle drive by looking through the machine software and the back among electronics.

Now I'm looking for MotionLink Plus as advised on the thread below as well as which exact cable I need to hook up a laptop to it.

Once again, thanks so much for your feedback.
