I forgot to mention that I thought it may be a problem with the DCI board in Slot 0 of the Maximiser cage and so I swoped it with the DCI Board in slot 5 making sure to change over the addresses but the problem is the same as before I tired it.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem please.
On first press of the “ON” button on the Control Pendant the CRT comes up and a 9111 message “Machine off”
If I press the cancel button I get the AC MTR O/L 9169 message then more presses of the “Cancel” button produces any number of MTR overload messages after each press (one at a time) but it usually goes back to the AC MTR O/L 9169 message if I stop pressing cancel.
I have done all of the obvious things like:
Checked all fuses
Made sure the “E” stops are not operating
Checked that the Hydraulics motor is free to turn.
Operated the Hydraulics and coolant motor contactors with a screw drive to see that they spin up freely
Made sure no slides are past their limit switches
I have run both Firmware and Software diagnostics and also the destructive memory tests then reloaded the software but it didn’t find a fault nor cure the problem.
Any ideas would be most welcome,

I have managed to solve the power up problem.
I can power up the machine and do an axis align and tool changer aling.
At this point it should be ready to accept MDI input.
I can (say) input an axis position and it shows up on the CRT as the next position to go to.
Obviously it needs an "M0" or an "M1 + "F(say)100" then pressing start should move the axis to the input position.
However, the axis does not move.
In fact, it will acept no MDI input - eg. "G92" or M3 "S500".
Oddly though, there are no error messages displayed.
I have also noticed that for example, there is no error message displayed if I remove the air pressure. However, when checking the contacts monitor the pressure switch is operating.
I also can't get the Tool release to work - eg. pressing the tool release button on the Pendant does not operate the tool release (either in manual or auto)
The oil pressure is good at 600psi.
I can manually operate the tool carousel using the push button at the rear of the machine.
I have also noticed that the gaurd switches don't throw up an error on the CRT when operated but as with all of the other actions the appropriate lit in the DCI board lights up to indicate that the input is trying to enter the processor but that nothing is going through to Output.
I am suspecting it is a board fault but I have swopped around the DCI and ACO boards (changing their addressess accordingly) to see if the problem moves around but it has no effect so I have concluded it may not be in the I/O rack but that there could be an issue with a board in the Proccessor rack.
I have gone through all of the Diagnostics in the TAG manual with the exception of the ones requiring electrical measurements on the boards using a scope etc.
They all checked out good.
I have reloaded the Systems tapes 1 and 2, then the MSC tape, Marriage parameters and Axis Comp tapes in accordance with procedure but still no joy.
I can move the axis (X Y & Z) using the manual controls on the pendant but not by MDI method.
I have noticed that the Orange "Feed Hold" pushbutton switch light is constantly on and so I guess I may have a feedhold problem but there is no CRT message to indicate any error.
I am at a loss to know what next - If I had spare processor boards I would try that but I don't have any.
Any Idea's please?

Unless you made a typing mistake in the forum, remember that the correct MDI line would be:
G0 X10.
(G0 = G ZERO)
or
G1 X10. F20.
but NOT M0 or M1 as you wrote...
On the Cincinatti you should be able to type that in and then simply press Cycle Start
Hi,
Thanks for the reply - yes it was a typo - sorry to confuse.
What is odd is that I am getting no error messages to indicate a fault.
Hence, it is my belief that I have one of a number of issues:
1. A processor board fault (Could be hardware failure or incorrect firmware or software) - If a firmware issue I realise that is probably due to hardware initially such as corruption in the firmware due to a chip going down.
I am going to go through the Diagnostics again and then do a system reload to see if I can overcome this.
2. It could be a "permision" not being given due to feedback not being received but I would have thought that should give me an error message.
3. I am stupid and am forgetting something fundemental - it happens - especially as I have not used the machine in ernest fro a couple of years during which time I had an operator running it.
If I had spare processor boards I would do a swop out and try to isolate it.
It seems that in the USA used boards go for reasonable prices - I have seen some on ebay but in the UK used boards command high prices when they are available and as it is a 1984 machine I am loathed to pour big money into it.

This may be another longshot but does it give you any message at all? Maybe it is giving you a "close operator door" message? Or maybe it wants to give you the message but something is missing in the machine - try closing the doors all the way and hitting cycle start after typing an MDI command.
On these machines any "automatic" cycle won't let you have the door open for safety.
Hi Burnthills
Just to be clear:
I am getting no error messages when trying to input MDI commands.
Years back I added a switch to allow me to bypass the gaurd interlock if I needed to.
So, I can have the gaurd interlock operational or not as I choose.
This is the sequence of events on powering the machine:
1. Press the start button and wait for the MDI screen to come on.
2. Press the start button again to power up (I get a "Power UP" message on screen which disappears on power up)
3. I have a retrofitted 4th axis which will throw up a CRT message unless the "B" axis is dissabled - So, I disable the "B" axis.
4. I do a slides align and all X,Y and Z slides align as expected.
5. I press the tool changer align and it aligns as expected.
So, I now should be in a position to input MDI codes - Lets say "Load tool 1" so I do M6 T1 and press the Cycle start button.
It is at this stage I would expect an error message if there was a problem that was stopping the action of loading Tool 1 but I get no message nor does the action take place.
As I think I mentioned, if I remove the air, I should see an error message but none is displayed.
Some error messages do display such as if I select "Mech Manual" and try to input an MDI code, it will display "Select Mech Auto" or something like that.
Sorry if I have the messages slightly wrong but I am at home and don't have access the to Manuals or M/C.
I can see the correct LED light up when I press the cycle start button - so I know that the DCI board is getting the message but nothin else happens.
Tomorrow, I intend to run through all of the diagnostics again and then reload the system to see if I can overcome this issue.
Best regards
Paul
