Sabre 1250 Y axis linear Scale FUBAR

Hi all:

We have a Cincinnati Sabre 1250 with Acr 2100 control and kollmorgen drives. The Y axis scale is broken. Is there a way to disable the linear scale and use the encoder feedback instead.

Please help...

Thanks.

It is possible, but it's been a long time since I have done this (for troubleshooting purposes). The prints show the standard wiring connections for encoder feedback on the drive pages (Y-axis is usually around p.27). On the right side of the page, was the changes for the optional scale.

Once you have the wiring changes made, you will have to go into the control configuration and set the feedback to encoder from scale.

once u change 2100 config, then you need to wire in the rotary motor encoder; it is the db9 connector on front bottom of the drive (if you have Servostar, Se10 or AS10 drives); it is a molex connector partway up front on the bds4 drives. let us know if you need wiring pin out for the encoder sig or if you need the encoder option card for the bds4 as we have in stock in OH

Thanks for the reply guys.

Just found out that the drives are actually Siemens. But says Kollmorgen in the control.

Machine Model is Sabre 1250 ERO 7037-A01-96-****
51A21001Y-1469

The Drive Part # is BDS422023614A32

The encoder cable from the motor is plugged into the drive. The DB9 cable from the controller is plugged in the Linear scale.

Need a procedure to configure the control and not sure where to plug in the DB9 cable from the controller to the drive.

Thanks.

We let Cincinnati private label our Kollmorgen drives. then they sold their controls div to Vickers, so they put their name on them - actually started building them too. Then siemens bought them and so the name went to siemens. so that is the history of the confusing names.

You need someone who knows the control to tell you how to reconfig it to use the motor's feedback (that presently goes to the bds4 drive). It will come out a white option connector. If you dont have the option connector you dont have the optional encoder equiv output option and need that board. you can call us for more info.

Thanks Mike:

Looks like I got the option connector.
There is also a 4 pin Molex connector that has been jumped in the other drives. I asume that I have to do the same for this one. Is there anything else that I would need.

Thanks.

So you have the hardware required. Now you need to know what to do with it. We sell the hardware, we do not do the software and do not know how to wire the machine - you are ready to ask the cincinnati person how to do that part. If it were my machine, I would follow the X&Z enc option wires that ARE there to the control and see where they plug in; it probably is as simple as duplicating the missing wire on the center Y drive and hooking it up just like the X&Z already are.

How to change the control from scale to encoder feedback varies depending on your software version, but based on your serial number and the kollmorgan drives, I'm assuming you have release 2 software. The information below is based on release 2.34, but I believe all release 2 are similar.

To change the feedback, press More/System Configuration/Axes/Axis data. Once on the axis data page, select the port for the axis you want to change (Y-axis is Port 3).

Before making changes to this setting, I think you will need to set the security level to MAI.

Then select the motor feedback button which will turn off slide feedback and ensure the axis data is correct. The only 2 that should be critical when changing to motor feedback are:
counts per motor rev - 12288 for kollmorgan BDS4 drives
mm per motor rev - 10 or 12 (depending on your ballscrew)

Option C card for BDS4 drive

Hi Mike:

One of the IC's in the option C card is burnt out. The bottom left one in the picture. Do you have a working Option C card in stock.

Thanks,

Alex

Y Axis Excess Error

Hi Mike:

We got your Option 2 Card. Now we are getting

"Alarm 44-44 - Y axis excess error Remedy: Verify axis gains and drive connections, Reduce speed of axis moves"

Is this got to do with the contoller or is there any settings we need to change in the card or the drive. I see a few jumpers and switches in the card.

Thanks
