Closing in on system fail 58 NEED HELP

I think I have made a break through, but I am not sure how to proceed. I get an interment system fail 58, but always during the tool change. After a lot of hair pulling I have made a correlation between the 58 error and the input at slot 2 input 4 which is the spindle orientation complete input. During a successful tool change that input indicator remains lit throughout the process. When I get a system 58 error the indicator goes out at some point during the process, this appears to be random but during the tool change.

For now I am going to slow down the tool carousel it seems to be pretty bouncy coming in and out and see how this affects the problem, but I am all about getting it fixed so any ideas would be appreciated.

The Machine is a saber 750 with 850MC control.

    Thanks

    Vince

    Vince,
Does your machine use a VFS5 spindle drive? If so it may be worth tracing the wiring back because the machines using this drive orient the spindle internally to the drive. Its possible your spindle is twitching out of position during tool change and dropping the in position signal from the spindle drive itself.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Thanks for the responce

    Chris

The spindle drive is a fanuc A06B-6059-C212 and the spindle orientation board is a A20B-0008-0032/03A. I have been chasing wires for about a month, and I am beginning to get cross eyed. The schematic shows a "magnetic sensor" I am assuming that, that provides the input, but not positive. What I was thinking was that it was on the edge of the acceptable band and the tool changer movement caused it to drift off the magnetic sensor a little. Does any of that seem feasible? in the meantime I will look at the wiring, please keep the ideas coming?

    Vince,
While I'm not familiar with the Fanuc spindle drive I know "some" of these machines had an in position prox switch. Look for anything like that on the spindle?
