I have a liquid ring vacuum pump for my 48X48 router table and it (the liquid and motor) gets quite hot. My question is this, how hot is too hot? and is their a way of cooling the water? I am a journeyman machinist and I am new to routers (and Mach3) and I am new to this company so I don't know anything about liquid ring vacuum pumps/ vacuum tables. My first thought is to fab a water cooler out of a water pump and a radiator from a car, but I don't know if this will be a band aid for the real problem. This is a picture of the vacuum pump I have it has no labels or description of it's capacity. It was purchased as a package used from China. The only identifiable label on it is the model number on the table it's self. OL-2030 thanks in advance Mike.S from Kelowna B.C. Last edited by ironman014; 04-29-2010 at 12:23 PM. | Hi Ironman, There are only a couple of us on the Forum (that i am aware of) who have used this particular type of pump. Ours is currently sitting in pieces, as it worked for only a couple of hours before the motor shat itself. We changed to a Becker Air Cooled Pump. During the time that it was running, it certainly ran very hot and gave off steam. I would guess that too hot would be boiling point of 210 degrees F. I have my doubts about a heat exchanger/ radiator because it would need a lot of air pushed through it to be effective. It was suggested to me that it would be better to increase the volume of water. Perhaps by plumbing the water return pipe into a 44 gallon drum full of water and welding an outlet to the bottom of the drum and pumping it back to the tank of the vaccuum pump. Might just work. Whatever you do, i would suggest adding a tin of soluble oil to the water to stop the components from rusting. If you look at Andre09`s Thread in this section you will see a discussion about it. Rocket. |
