Default Step by step guide to upgrade an Omni 6040 CNC to a G540

    hello all forum members,

Sorry if i double post that question as my previous post was may be in the wrong thread and did not get any answer.

i own an Omni CNC 6040 but every back and then i have some issues with the spindle going a little bit where it wants instead of the gcode directions.

I've been reading the upgrade to a gecko G540 plus 48V PS and some other stuff will upgrade this machine with a tremendous step forward.

Being a newbie, i am a little scared about upgrading myself this control box.

Is there anyone here who did that upgarde and can write a step by step guide to upgrade the controler from the factory components to the Gecko G540?
Any help will be very welcome.

I already contacted Homann supplies in Australia (I am based in indonesia) and they send me those links on what I will have to buy, but I am very unsure on how to assemble them.

So any info on how to turn my original controler to a Gecko G540 is the upgrade i would like to do.

Thank you by advance for your future replies.

    regards.

Before spending lots of money have you

    A) run an earth wire from your machine frame to the earth point in your control box
    B) changed all the standard cables for shielded cy cables (spindle, motors, switches)

These two steps solved all my electrical issues, and cost about £10 to do.

I will have to check that but I think so.

What are shielded cables (sorry I am a newbie here) ? To answer you, no I did not, but I do not know where i can get my hands on this kind of cables as I am in Indonesia and it is kind of very far from any good suppliers here. I've been told by reading some forum thread that the shielded cables are not necessary for this type of CNC, but as you said it solved your problems, may be I should investigate on this matter.

    thank you for your suggestions.

Shielded cables, or cy cables as they're known. It's a cable that has a copper braid wrapped around the cores inside the insulated jacket. The copper braid acts as a shield to prevent interference both from escaping or from reaching the cabling inside.

Until I put a cy cable on my spindle, I had lots of issues with the machine jamming, losing connection, losing steps. After installing the cy cable I have not had a single problem since.

    Hi

OMNI support there,I didn't get your emails about changing our machine to what you want.

I am not sure which company you buy from, omni china or other company who copy us.

If it did our company machines, please do send me an email into support@omni-cnc.com with front machine picture attached,

    That would be much better!

    Kind Regards
    Albert

    Don't forget to :

    - properly ground the VFD
    - properly ground the PSU powering the drives

Omio doesn't run any wires but relies on the crappy screws holding the components in the case.
