You'll probably need a new VFD, and if it's a different brand, it may not use the same control method.
But you might want to look into better tooling? A 3HP spindle should have more than enough power for a small machine like that.
COMPLETELY new to doing anything in upgrades and changes. I bought this about 2 years ago and have been putting it through it's paces for my charity Frets4Vets to build guitars. I am starting to use some harder woods that the machine is not liking very well. so I looked up in my Alibaba suppliers and I can get a 4hp er-20 spindle with all the same dimensions to replace my 3hp stock unit. If I did somethine like that does anything in the controller need to change? power feed in is same multipin, same water tube size for cooling.. Just don't want to waste non-profit funds if it won't be a simple swap and will nickle and dime us to death

Good woodworking tooling typically will not have a coating.
You should be able to do a cut like that with a 1Hp laminate trimmer without bogging down.
What RPM are you running at?
It may be that your spindle is faulty, or your VFD is not configured correctly.
What are you cutting?
I'd look into using a Vortex 1230 or 4233, or similar Onsrud or Amana.
