    Default Diagonal movements

    Hi,

    i have a 3040, I'm using uccnc and vcarve.

i have a simple project which involves cutting a 12mm pocket at each corner of a board, I'm using a 6mm bit.

if I cut : bottom left, top left, bottom right, top right everything is fine.

if I cut : bottom left, top left, top right, bottom right then the two right hand holes are approx 5/6mm too high.

it seems to me, that when making a diagonal move where the X axis goes a long way and the Y axis only a short way (from the top of one pocket to the centre of the next) the Y axis is either not moving or not moving accurately. I can feel the Y axis stepper slowly doing something but clearly not enough.

by going top left to bottom right the y axis is moving a similar amount to x and has no issues.

anyone have any ideas on whether this is sensible and what I might do from a hardware or software perspective to fix?

    Thanks

    Dan

At his point, send the machine back to zero, and see if it actually goes there (Sounds like it will not).
If not, check everything mechanical first. Make sure everything moves smoothly, with no binding. Make sure everything is lubricated that needs to be.

If it's not mechanical, than it gets into electrical issues, which are much more difficult to troubleshoot.
But if it's repeatable, I'd say that it's more likely to be a mechanical issue.
