For those who've seen them in the flesh when new, what is a realistic amount of backlash for the trapezoidal version?
I'm not wanting to machine with one, but I'm needing to probe some parts reasonably urgently, and grabbing one of these looks like the best short term option. I just trying to gauge how much backlash to expect when new.
I didn't think they had any backlash issue with the trapezoidal ones, as normally they use spring loaded plastic nuts that can be adjusted?
I did order my 6040 with ballscrews at the time though to get away from trapezoidal rods.
If your buying one though, surely the 6040 with ballscrews will be the best value, especially as these units generally come with a garbage (blue box) controller that will need to be replaced with a G540 or similar controller. The ones from Carving CNC seem to be of good quality though as a turnkey unit.
A 3040 with ballscrews would be ideal, however going by currrent UK ebay pricing of £1k above their usual price, the sellers are out of stock.
So I'm either looking at getting a trapezoidal one, or paying a couple hundred more for one with a 4th axis.
I already have a Kflop+Kstep on it's way to replace the standard controller, along with a touch probe, however they're not going to be much use without a suitable machine to fit them to!
