    Stainless Steel Crucible

    Hi All,

Is stainless steel a good material to make a crucible. I see people using steel pipe but I read that steel will oxidize and flake. I figure sst will not oxidize as much but will not have as great heat transfer.

    Thanks,
    skipper

yes it it a good material and will give good service. it will still wear out and hole thru, it just takes longer. also quite pricy

It will also add SST into the casting making it nasty to machine......Al is very acidic towards Stainless steel.
