Looking to do CNC

I saw desckam, it looks pretty easy to use, can any one give me input on it?

I use it, it does a great job. You will need to customize the post processor for you NC software. I would be nice if you did'nt have to apend a file everytime you create a tool path.

How do you go about customizing the post processor? Im a little new to this. I have the program but havent used yet. Looks like alot to learn. What is a post processor?

deskam is quite nice, quick, simple and right to the point. It would also be nice to have push buttons instead of having to drop the menu or right clicking to get the menu however. Anyway to you answer:

A post processor is used to make the g-code file so your specific driver program reads it right. For example, a circle can be described in many ways so you want to config the processor so it puts out the right g-code for the driver program your using. What driver program are you using? If its CNCPro or TurboCNC or something like that then:

Start the program and click on "Setup" and then "post processor setup." In General, and Under Name put in the generic procesor of ISO G-Code. This will probably be right on. Now draw a line, one at an angle, and a circle and convert it. Pretend cut it on the machine and make sure you get what you planned. If not, then you will have to try the other post processors or custom make your own with the settings. Also check out the help file in deskam.
