Hi, Master5 gave a maximum feedrate of about 9.68ipm with my computer and the following configuration: Driver: Gecko201 screwpitch:25.4tpi (1 per mm) Nema23 motor 3.2V 2A step angle:1.8 degree (2000 step per revolution) steps/inch:50800 Voltage: 36 volt What kind of speed can one expect from DeskCNC? Will DeskCNC give a higher max. pulse rate than Master5? Thanks |

LOL" Hi Woodknack, Good thing I visited your site http://users.adelphia.net/~wjdupont before I reply, otherwise I might have let off like John Conrad :-) Questioning how I came up with 2000 steps per rev!!! Your sound like a jolly fellow from your website, even humble enough to admit to being a parrot, so I'll let that pass. 1 revolution = 200 steps (full stepping) Gecko201 10x microstepping 1 revolution = 200x10=2000 steps From your site, you are using Xylotex board which uses 8x microstepping I think, so I believe you will get 200x8 = 1600 steps per revolution!!!!!! So where did I go wrong??? Master5 can tell me how many steps per second I can get with any computer (constant I think). TurboCNC does even better, it somehow reads the inside of my computer and tells me how many ipm I will get. So could someone please tell me how many steps per second I will be able to get out of DeskCNC. BTW what is LOL? Peter |

| Hi Woodknack, Hey, we're both in this for fun right? I was fooling around a bit too. Just wish John could do that too. But I am serious in wanting to know what frequency pulse rate deskcnc is capable of and hope someone who knows will chip in. Have fun |

| OK I admit You are absolutly right in your figuring. I has having a brain cramp. Very easy for me to do! I did'nt really give it any thought becouse I used a .INI file I got that some one already made for the xylotex board. This has been a good learning experience for me too! to get your steps per second try this. 25.4 x 50800 / 60 = 21505 steps per second.. hope this helped you out.. This is my set up in turbocnc.( i guess the software figure steps per second) Axis #1 1/8 step 200 steps/rev 200 * 8 = 1600/step/rev 1/4-20 leadscrew = .050 / rev .050/1600 = .00003125/step (this is the number i have setup in turbocnc)

Hi Woodknack, Looks like we are getting nearer to understanding each other. My screwthread is metric - 1mm per revolution That would make it 25.4mm in an inch, therefore 25.4rev per inch With the Gecko 1/10 microstepping driver, 2000 microsteps per rev. it will take 2000x25.4 steps = 50800 steps to move 1 inch The resolution (inch per step) = 1/50800 = 0.00001984 All the above calculations does not involve time, only distance move. With DeskCNC I can get maximum 14 inch per minute. this will be 14x50800 steps/min or 711200 steps per minute, 11853 steps per second. What maximum feedrate inch per minute are you getting with the xylotex and DeskCNC combination? What I am trying to do is to figure out if it is my driver of the DeskCNC that is limiting the maximum feed rate. Thanks Woodknack for your time |

| Hi Woodknack, Found something on this site: http://www.imsrv.com/deskcnc ".....Over 40,000 steps per second. ...." Looks like it may be my driver configuration that may be limiting the max. feedrate. Still interested in what max. inch per minute you are getting. |

| I am currently getting 46 IPM with Turbocnc. That is the motors are not hooked to anything yet. I can make it go faster, around 55 IPM but I can stop the motor with my fingers then! Currently building a new machine now. I am hoping to get at least 35 IPM or more when the machine is done.. I have DESKNC the dos version but have not tried it yet. I heard it lacked some of the gcode that Turbocnc will do!? I tried KCAM but the stepper do not run good under windows. Too bad really. It seems like it would be a good product. Plus after looking at his site, he does'nt answer any questions on his forum. MEANING NOT VERY GOOD SUPPORT....

| OK you came up with this figure. The resolution (inch per step) = 1/50800 = 0.00001984 how did you come up with that? Maybe I am doing it wrong, but this is how i did yours. 200/25.4=7.874 7.874/200=.03937 .03937/2000=.000019685 That should be your resolution (inch per step) unless I am missing something. or the way you did it, 1/50800 =.000019685 Maybe you jsut did a typo and I did all this math for nothing.. Hahah. Thats ok I need practice.... DID I TELL YOU I HATE MATH!!!! hahaha..

| Couldn't follow your calculations. Looks like my maths is just as bad. This is the way I do it. 1 inch = 25.4 rev (tpi 25.4) 1 rev = 2000 steps (1/10 microstepping) so 1 inch 25.4 rev x 2000 steps/rev 1 inch = 50800 steps 50800 steps = 1 inch so 1 step = 1/50800 inch 1 step = 0.000019685 inch ------------------------------ Another way to look at it 25.4 rev = 1 inch 1 rev = 1/25.4 inch = 0.03937 inch 1 rev = 2000 steps = 0.03937 inch so 1 step = 0.03937/2000 inch =0.000019685 inch |
