Hi there

I'm new here and new to the whole machining and CNC thing to boot! I have a mill coming from the Shanghia Sumore Industry Co. ( http://www.sumore.com/products_show.asp?id=301 ), ressurected an older PC ( 1.8 Ghz AMD with 512m ram and 70g hd with a 17" monitor ) running Ubuntu Linux 9.1 and Mach3 Mill. I'm still working out the bugs on the PC ( can't get Mach3 to run when I have my NVidia 1024x768 driver running and can't run Mach3 for sh*t in 800x600 ). Anyways, during my search for "stuff" to try and resolve my PC problems I found this place and wanted to say Hi. I know I still have a bunch of parts to buy ( stepper motors, breakout boards and controller ect) but thought that I would try to get a jump on the the whole CNC software thing for now, and deal with the other stuff when I actually have the machine to mess around with. So, without further ramblings, Hi.

Hi. Looks like you have another variation of the X2. Where did you buy it from? Your name indicates that you are on the other side of the continent!

Hi. Yes, I'm on the Wet-coast. I bought my machine directly from the manufacture, http://www.sumore.com/products_show.asp?id=301 . Great to deal with, just have to wait till the 2nd week of Feb. when it arrives in Vancouver.

What was the total cost including shipping and taxes? I imported my SX3 years ago when the CAD was much lower. At that time my net cost was $1400 CAD including trucking charges to Calgary from Vancouver.

The machine it's self is $392 USD. I added auto x-feed and a machine vice, then with shipping it is $650 Cdn FOB Vancouver. I will have to pick it up at the freight company, but that's a local drive for me.

That's quite good. A basic X2 cost $700 + tax at Busy Bee Tools.

Well, I will be honest, I went to BusyBee in Coquitlam and looked at the small machine there for $699. Then I added the X power feed ( which they had to order in for the machine which would cost who knows how much ) then all the taxes. I decided right then and there that I could do better if I shopped around a bit and I think I have. The $$$ I saved is buying the MT3 collet and a bunch of different end mills as well as a dial indicator and stand. I'll post pics when it arrives and I have it setup.
