Hello everyone, I am looking at a used cnc maching center from new england. What kind of boarder import taxes/fee's should I expect and who should I contact prior to importing to Canada. Also does anyone know a good freight company? Also would it be cheaper as a "personal" machine or to buy the machine as a business? As well I am located in Calgary Ab so there shouldn't be and pst. Anyone have a breakdown of expected expenses with buying a machine from the USA. |

| Yellow Freight is one of the ones I use, if they do not have a depot near you, they will pass it on to a Canadian Co. If you have a customs office, you can ask the freight Co. to bring it in in bond and you can clear it yourself if you want, the forms are on line in the CRA site. Otherwise you will have to employ a broker, cost depends on price, see the yellow pages. If you are a business, you will only pay GST otherwise PST also, or is there none in Ab?. There are most likely no duties payable on a CNC machine, even made in China. Your biggest cost will be freight. Al.

| If it is made in North America there will be no duties for sure. Sometimes the overseas stuff have charges. I would figure on making my life easy and pay a broker a couple hundred to do the papers. Crating, rigging and freight is what will cost the big bucks anyway.

| Hi there, just for reference, I live up in Yellowknife, NT and just had a Mill shipped to me from Calgary. It was 750 Lbs. and cost .67 cents a pound, + a $50.00 fuel surcharge and of course, the dreaded GST. You said it was used? If it's coming from a person and or sold as is, be VERY careful that whom ever you are dealing with knows how to properly crate your machine for such a log journey.
