Hey all, Stumbled onto CNCzone a month or so back, At first I though building a CNC was a ludicrous task, now I'm pricing out a Joe 2006, :P I'm in Markham, Ontario hope to post pics of the build in the next month, BTW anyone got a source for cheap acme rods? I was able to haggle Fasteners down to 73$ for 2x 6ft lengths, but still WAY cheaper (36$ after exchange) to get from ENCO and have it shipped to the states and a friend drive it back up here for me. |

| The Joes 2006 is a great machine. I built one about a year ago and it works really well. For the acme rod, I would suggest you get the double start 10 or 8 TPI as it really makes a difference in the travel rate. I run at about 100-120ipm while cutting with no issues. For routing wood, this is about the minimum I would run. Initially I purchased 10tpi single start rod from Fastnal for about $35/6' length. This limited the travel speed to about 80ipm max and I ended up getting the 10tpi double start from Motion Inc for about $120 each (ouch). If you can get the rod from McMaster-Carr, you will pay less than 50% of that price. I am located in Burlington, Ontario. |

| Thanks for all the warm welcomes ![]() After more reading, I plan to indeed go with the 1/2" -10 with a 2 start, And I am fairly sure I can get it shipped to a friend in Cali, who trucks back and forth between there and Toronto, Also plan to do a HobbyCNC kit, with the 2 start, I should use the 305oz right? going to have to hit nook's website and look at the charts, Unfortunately the whole deal is on hold, Lay offs and the lardlord jacking rent ![]() but I am optimistically planning for late summer start, Again thanks guys, and I hope to be linking a build log soon |
