| I am a plant manager of a mostlly cnc lathes and try to do most of the repairs myself when i get a repair I can't do we usually get a tech from Fanuc in Toronto. I would like to get more training on repair and maybe start my own company out here in Brighton because there is nobody out this way that repairs the machine's . My question is What trade would you go for to be a repair tech on cnc's ? Thanks Tom |

| I would say first off, you need a good background in Industrial Electronics and Mechanics. How far are you from Mississauga? as there is North American Industrial there with Fanuc etc experience. Al.

| AFAIK there is no CNC Tech course per se, as there are so many control specifics that make it difficult to obtain a discipline that covers all eventualities. But once you have the overall concept down, you develop an intuitive sense or knowledge because almost all controls follow the same concept, just the route they take is a little different. I would say, Industrial Electronics is a must for a basic start. Al.

| If you work on a specific brand, there is usually factory training courses available for their technicians. Most of the guys I talk to (doing freelance) worked for the factory supply house for years before going solo.
