| Hi all, I have recently ditched a cushy government job in favor of a larger head ache, as it turns out. The idea of being my own boss and being in a better position to create a job are just a few reasons that motivated me in this direction. During the last year I have spent money (savings) in acquiring a brand new CNC Haas VM3 machine with a business partner whom I thought he knew what the rat's ass he was doing. Yes, I actually needed someone to tell me what's what as my previous job had nothing to do with manufacturing while I am not CNC or mechanically trained in a formal way of things. I kind of went on a whim because I am rather good with geometry & math and I am naturally technically inclined. Suffice it to say, it looks like I am on my own to pay the bills after all. My bills at this time consist of primarily lease because unfortunately I can't park the dragon of Haas CNC in my garage. Long story short, I am looking for ideas of how to get jobs to keep my CNC busy so I can pay for my bills. Up until recently I relied on the partner to bring in the jobs; not a very good idea. At this time maybe a salesman would do it. Someone in the field suggested that I should do cold knocking armed with a paper summarizing my machine's capacity. I have been doing this for over two months and nothing pans out. At this time I am wondering if you guys can give me a direction, an idea, a website, a name of an agency that specializing in this sort of this or salesman that can find work for me? Or is this completely unreasonable? Desperate and honest while still retaining my dignity ( ),Chris, Toronto, ON. |

| One way to get worldwide advertising for about 20 - 30 cents a month is through eBay. These type of ads are usually there, with some nice photos of previous work and one hour of design or machine time being sold. Customers need your contact info to discuss the details, so you end up on the phone. This avenue is out there working for you 24/7, for less than a coffee a month. Jim |

| Thank for your reply Jim. Basically just advertise something for sale? In this case would be my shop, right? Cheers!

| find something to make that you can actully sell . even if you are getting $5 -10 hour you will be helping your self . once you get any name for making stuff you can keep making a simple item an then expand . costom parts for almost anything will sell . im very surprized you can run a cnc machine with no training or use of machines before . way to go . in all honesty you have a ton of compitition , with years of expierance . but it realy only takes 1 good item to sell . every hobby out there needs something . bikes , motor bikes , fishing . cars . forums for every thing aswell. |
