I also found when I first got started that big picture information was quite hard to find. This site is quite good at answering specific questions, but few here have the patience to write a big picture answer. Don't think he hangs around on this list, but Joe Martin at Sherline.com has done a wonderful job through the years of writing books and articles about machining and about cnc. He does a wonderful job at taking a noob by the hand and introducing him to the world of machining and to the world of cnc. Visit him at sherline.com. Tom |

| When I started looking into building a CNC, I've never seen or used one. My only experience was YouTube videos and info from this site. Building the physical machine is just as hard as wiring everything up and configuring it. If you have access to a machine, it will make your build much easier. I didn't but I was able to get parts that I needed. First things first, what will you be using your CNC for? The answer to this question will help you determine 70% of how to build your CNC.

| jezx, Yep, navigating through this site could be overwhelming even though it’s well designed, so if you are interested getting to the information about building a CNC piece of machinery, or simply just getting to see what’s going on in the metalworking industry, try the following steps; 1. Go to - Home Page 2. Select – Forums 3. Once in forums, scroll down to – Metalworking Machines 4. Once in this sub-forum, select the posted thread (post) you’re interested in and read all about it, or reply with your comment, and/or place a new thread. Now, if I misunderstood what you were interested in, please disregard the above. Good luck…. |
